The Mondos have been recognised in the town of San Marzano Oliveto, near Asti, as wine-makers for generations and are, as such, much appreciated.
The company, which still maintains its artisan, family character, is run by Valerio and his father Franco.
Their estate covers about twelve hectares of vineyards, approximately 60 % of which are dedicated to the cultivation of Barbera grapes while the rest is divided between Moscato Bianco, Dolcetto, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cortese, Chardonnay and Favorita varieties.
Valerio is an enologist and as well as concerning himself with the agricultural aspect of the vineyards he supervises each step of the grape selection and the wine-making process which takes place in the family homestead, just a stone’s throw from the vineyards and Franco is the agricultural expert responsible for the various stages of cultivation.
Among the most important wines – all of the Mondo family’s wine are D.O.C. and D.O.C.G. – the Barbera d’Asti is perhaps the most important of all.
